How to create custom Minecraft items

Design custom Minecraft Bedrock items with textures, damage, food values, armor slots, and crafting recipes.

Pick a kind

Generic items sit in the inventory. Weapons are hand-equipped and use a damage component. Food uses nutrition and saturation. Armor uses wearable slots (head, chest, legs, feet) plus a protection value.

Paint a 16×16 icon

Vanilla item icons are 16×16. Keep a dark outline and a single highlight so the sprite reads in hotbars. Blocksmith’s pixel editor includes a Minecraft dye palette so your item sits next to vanilla gear without clashing.

Add a recipe

Shaped recipes use a 3×3 grid of vanilla ingredients (sticks, ingots, planks) or your own custom identifiers. Players then craft the item at a crafting table after the behavior pack is enabled.

Open the studio

Put this into practice — paint a custom item and export a .mcaddon.
